EARTHQUAKE

A 6.8 earthquake hit the Seattle area on February 28, 2001. The quake lasted for about 20 seconds and did almost a billion dollars worth of damage. The following structures in Tukwila were damaged .The King County Airport had major damage to the runway and was closed. The Bon department store at the mall had structural damage to the third floor and was red tagged. Construction crews are working quickly to re-open the store. The building pictured above received a lot of damage, but most of the damage is cosmetic.
The fire department responded to numerous calls. The big problem encountered was communications. The departments reliability on one radio system is being looked onto.
