Stair run photo
In 1996, firefighters  Matt Hickey, Kory  Custer, Ken Beckman,  and Matt Czuleger  climbed 69 floors of  the Columbia Tower in  full turnout gear while  breathing air from their  air tanks. They  competed with several  hundred other  firefighters in this event  to raise money benefiting the Lukemia Society of America. In 1997. firefighters Eric Sullivan, Dan McCone, and Matt Hickey competed. 1998 saw firefighters Jack Waller, Ken Beckman, Mark Morales, and Dan McCone. In 1999, firefighters Ken Beckman, Mark Morales, and Dan McCone once again climbed to the top. In 2000, Barry Pomeroy completed this with a great time. He was met at the top by Tukwila City Council members. The Tukwila City Council told us that they will pay the entrance fee every year.
Year 2001 four firemen completed the run with great times.
Ken Beckman 22 minutes
Jason Konieczka 17 minutes

Give Burns The Boot

There is a philosophy, a way of life practiced by burn injured children across America, it is known as: "EYABSUT" Do you know what this means? This is a Native American word meaning, "To rise above anything".
For the campers and volunteer counselors at The Northwest Burn Foundation Camp, the week long camp is charged with emotion. Each camper, each of these burn survivors has a story to share. This years camp saw a record 81 campers. For one week each year they get to enjoy hiking, rafting, swimming, archery, and rock climbing. They also enjoy the company of others like themselves, without the stares, the glares or the whispers that come any other day.
October 3rd was Washington State Firefighters and The NW Burn Foundation, "Give Burns the Boot" day. Firefighters throughout the State took to the streets to "Fill the Boot", a firefighters boot, for Burn Foundation projects. Tukwila Fire Crews raised $1,658.00 to help fund things like Burn Camp.

The NW Burn Foundation, IAFF Local 2088, The Tukwila Fire Department and I wish to thank the following: Costco, Target, Larry's Market, The Pizza Source, and King County E911 for their help the day of the event. I also wish to thank: "C" Shift, who was on duty that day, The "B" shift personnel who came in off duty, Explorer Post 51, and special thanks go to Jacob Perkins and Michael Flores.
